What it is
Bak Poya marks the second visit of Lord Buddha to Sri Lanka, believed to have taken place in Nagadeepa (Jaffna). Temples hold special services and many Buddhists observe sil. Coming just after the New Year celebrations, it is a quiet, reflective day. Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya in Jaffna sees the most significant observances.
