What it is
Vap Poya marks the end of the vas (rainy season retreat) for Buddhist monks. Kathina ceremonies begin after this day, where laypeople offer new robes and requisites to monks. It is a significant day in the Buddhist monastic calendar and temples across the country hold special Kathina celebrations in the weeks following.
