What it is
Binara Poya marks the establishment of the Bhikkhuni Sasanaya — the order of Buddhist nuns — by Lord Buddha. It is a day of particular significance for Buddhist women. Temples hold special programs and sermons. Many devotees observe sil and engage in acts of merit-making.
