What it is

Milad-un-Nabi celebrates the birth of Prophet Muhammad. Sri Lankan Muslims mark the day with special prayers at mosques, recitation of the Quran, charity, and community meals. Mosques are decorated and illuminated. It is a quieter, more devotional occasion compared to the Eid celebrations.

Tips for visitors

  • Mosques may hold open events — you can observe respectfully
  • A quiet public holiday
