What it is

Eid ul-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Sri Lankan Muslims celebrate with special prayers, the ritual sacrifice of an animal (usually a goat or cow), and distribution of meat to family, friends, and the poor. It is a public holiday and a time of generosity and community.

Tips for visitors
