Sri Lanka in June

Quiet, green and cheap — the east coast's best month

June continues the southwest monsoon, though it's usually less intense than May, with sunny breaks between showers. The east coast and cultural triangle are in full swing, and Poson Poya draws huge crowds to Anuradhapura and Mihintale.

Festivals, holidays and seasons in June

Coming south in June?

It's not peak beach weather, but the south coast is far from closed. Expect quieter towns, lower prices and rough seas, so choose places with plenty to do on land.

What to pack

  • Light rain layer
  • Modest white clothing if attending Poson
  • Motion-sickness tablets for boat trips
