Peak Tourist Season (South Coast)
Dry weather, calm seas, and the best beach conditions on the south coast.
What it is
December to March is the driest, sunniest period on the south and west coasts of Sri Lanka. Seas are calm, visibility is excellent for snorkelling and diving, and the beaches are at their best. This is peak season — prices are higher, popular spots get busy, and accommodation should be booked well in advance. The weather is warm (28-32C) with low humidity. This is the ideal time for first-time visitors to the south coast.
Tips for visitors
- Book accommodation 2-3 months ahead for December-January
- Expect premium pricing, especially around Christmas and New Year
- Mornings are the best time for beach and water activities
