Sri Lanka in November

The south coast season opens — at shoulder prices

November is when the south coast wakes up again. Rain is still heavy early in the month but eases steadily, cafés and surf schools reopen, and whale season begins toward the end of the month. The east coast heads into its own monsoon.

Coming south in November?

It's not peak beach weather, but the south coast is far from closed. Expect quieter towns, lower prices and rough seas, so choose places with plenty to do on land.

What to pack

  • A light rain layer
  • Reef shoes
  • Sunscreen — the sun comes out strong between showers

Local tip

✦ Late November is one of the best-value times on the south coast. The weather is nearly as good as December and rooms can cost a third less.
